Is there such a thing?- can it be interhrated in home automation?
If not is anyone interested in it?
I have the knowlege on the IT/tech side - not on fish side?
I once had a heater fail-on fried over $300.00 of young
Tanganyikans. If i would have gotten an email i might have saved them?
Thanks for any info!

you know, speaking from a business mans standpoint, i honestly think something like this has alot of potential.

think of saltwater set ups, elaborate freshwaters, dedicated hobbiyists, breeders......so many types of different people. thousands of dollars, hundreds of hours and countless frustrations have been invested into these tanks. i think people would be more than happy to get a phone call alerting them to their ph, ammonia, temp etc..... jumping even a fraction beyond of what they want.

you figure out the technical/it/sensory side, and i can figure out the marketing and fishy-type technical details of it :)

EDIT:: i just noticed your i staten island. im in long island. we can really make this work :D

They do have a monitoring system that SW people use i forgot the name but if u search around Reefcentral you'll find more info, it gives email alerts too

ARGH!! I can't remember what it's called lol. I think we had them at work...

Yup, there are monitors for reef systems...

However, if you just want to check temp and make sure lights are on or off, then maybe an X10 set up of some sort... I know there are temp monitors for computer cases as well, you could use one of those and some F/OSS software like lmsensors to monitor temp that way as well...

(Thats pretty much it?)After looking at this device it is only software i am talking about a device that gathers the data- can control equipment from an input output board and email alerts or data wether your computer is on or not.
If you know of anything like that please let me know or if interested let me know! Combining work with play?
Ever use it?
How powerfull? If you could get email alarms what would they be?
For Freshwater?
For Saltwater?

Where is work? If you dont mind me asking?
I am an engineer we design remotley monitored energy management sysetms - I am wondering if ther is a market for a device like this _ or maybe there is one outthere already?
Thanks for all the help.

It'd be easier to just set up a webcam and have streaming video footage of the tank. I'm working with my roommate (comp sci major) to set it such that individuals with passwords would be able to rotate the camera for diff angles and feed with a mechanical claw. :-)

i am talking about if a heater fails and the temp rises or falls to much and you are on a two day vacation or if you filter fails we can hook up a web cam to system to. I would like to monitor ph ammonia and salinity level for sw all real time with an email alarm if something goes out of wack
