Weeksii activity level compared to others

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i may have already mentioned this, but mine have gone from 4 inches to 8 in 1.5 years. if they can compete for food i would be ok with the smaller size. im just doubtful they can do that. i look at your 22 incher and i think i may want to keep them tho

What time of day do you feed? I always feed at night in the dark. I have never seen my Weeksii eat. I just know the pile of food I dump in before bed is gone in the AM

Mine did better after I started feeding after dark. So you dont get to see your weeksii eat but it works.

they are in a grow out tank. they have been in there by themselves, with other bichirs, and now i just added two cichlids. so i could feed them at night now as they are the only nocturnal fish in there. but there are two so i wouldnt know if they are both getting food. but in the eventual main tank, there are other bichirs and i am certain the other bichirs would beat them to the food. feeding at night does not mean they would get to the food with other bichirs present.

True, but I believe that even timid bichirs become much more aggressive in the dark. Years ago I shared your concerns about certain bichirs not being aggressive enough to get food. After switching to night feeding and some trial and error to finding out the max amount of food I could dump in the tank with out food being left over. ( many a day in the process I had to clean un eaten food out in the am before work) Since then all my bichirs are "plumped out" and I am confident that they all are getting enough food

This is in a competitive environment, 13 Bichers from 8" to 23", two large gobies and a Florida gar

The downside, I never get to watch my fish feed, the upside they all are healthy and well fed.
