I had to catch some fish last night and when i put the lid back on i left about a two inch gap on my tank (i didn't notice it until this morning.) I woke up around 7am and noticed a weird smear on the floor near my tank. I pondered it for a moment and thought I must have tracked something inside (its near the back door,) and then went to feed the fish and get ready for work. I came back later to clean it up before i had to leave for work and noticed it was more of a trail that led behind a couch....

there i spotted my weeksii. He looked all dried out. I went to touch him and he jerked and i sighed relief. I put him back in the tank and he sunk like a rock stiff as a log. I didn't really have time to do anything about it so i wished him luck and went to work.

I got home today and he looks pretty ragged but he is moving a bit....well, its not like he was that active before the incident, but he is still alive.

Should i do anything special for him to help him recover?

oh, and i think the smear was poop. he must have flopped halfway across the room and then crapped...and then flopped some more and smeared it around a bit.

Most likely the smear was his slime coat. I would add salt to the water at 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons and add prime or stress coat to the water to help it's slime coat. Hope he pulls through as there isn 't much else you can do

This happened to my endli not long ago. Everyone told me to do a large water change and add salt to the tank and lower the water level to half way. Then do a small water change everyday and keep adding salt with each water change. My guy is alive and kicking now thanks to everyone here and he was completely dried out when my mom found him. He couldn't even move, she just saw that his gills moved a little so I told her to put him in the tank. Good luck!

i dont normally do a late night mid week water change, but here we go :)
