Weird eggs in my tank????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I swear everything about that fish says male but when I looked again it looked liks an egg tube retracting. The color fins and markings all say male. If it turned out male it wouldn't surprize me at all, I'd be more surprized if it was a female to be honest.

when the vent is thick and going down its a female and when its thin and pointing to the back its a male

It's a female. Nothing about that fish looks male to me. Everyone seems to think a GT with some color is always a male for some reason. You can't go by pointy fins or color to sex a fish. Yours has tons of blue spangling under it's jawline, males pretty much never have this. Yours is shorter and more rounded bodied with a smallish head, and most of all it's a female because it's vent is showing that in the first picks you posted;).

Anyone that is saying male please explain why you think this fish is a male. And don't say it has pointy fins:).

i always thought it was male because of its size and how fast a grew i have had it for about a year.... So my guessing is it want to mate or its ready to mate? its extremely stocky and fat around the stomach area.

If it were a colorless picture of an unknown species and exhibited those traits, I'd definitely have to suggest that is a female cichlid. And with the behavioral changes and egg tube, rounded belly, and comparing her finnage to some truly endowed male finnage around here, the case is very strong for that being a female. I would personally almost guarantee that to be a female GS.

As for the eggs, who is guarding them? That will most likely be who laid them.

My angelfish used to lay eggs all by herself every few weeks.

no one is guarding them they ar all gone all the fish ate them?

Even without that clue, the pics you took seem to leave the GS as the primary suspect. I wouldn't worry about it, it's just what they do.
