Weird Oscars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm gonna be real honest.....GET RID OF THE OSCARS FOR NOW.
1. They're too much to keep in a 55
2. They have a brotherhood with the other fish and will protect them
(Sounds funny but they have been known to practically parent other fish not of thier kind if they've been with and grown with them.
3. Oscars are a dime a dozen, and if you really want them you can prolly get better looking ones.
4. You're going to be much more satisfied when all said and done with the other possibilites available.
5. Even the possibilities for environment in the tank increase with the expulsion of the oscars.

I don't mean to rain on the parade but this would be a healthier long run solution for your wallet, the oscars, and any other fish you get. I'm sure we've all kept fish in tanks that would eventually be too small but inevitably move them. In your case sooner would be the best solution over all. A flower horn will not be kind to anything once it gets of size!!! Do not, and I stress that, try that route until you have a bigger tank. Some flower horns half the size of a mature male malawi peacock would take it out. Again, death...not what we're going for. There's always a catch.....size and time of togetherness. I've kept souths, centrals, and all sort of diff. africans together but size is an issue. They may get along idef. but not usually and new introductions are the hardest. No one will ever pinpoint the combination possibilities but try not to take big risk Eg. Flower Horn growing way bigger than anything you'd want to keep in a 55 and smokin it. The more mixing you do the more knowledge you should have about each species and location before mixing it up also. I've kept polleni with peacocks, still have a snook in with them, and two calvus...but the polleni had to be moved with size and the snook will to. Better to move or get rid of something before it causes the problem. Trying to give you as much info as possible along with the possibilities and Im sure someone will stomp on some part of my thoughts but....Think about 1-5 above. It's you best bet. And start saving everything you've got to get a bigger tank....it will cost the pricetag and a bunch more but you'll never regret it!! GOOD LUCK

se;; a;; your tanks and get you a 75 gal or 65 . 75 is way better and you can keep wayt way ore verity in there. the oscars will push ten to 12 inchs in under a year if you feed them like i didn mine. Flowerhorns are plain mean like everyone else said so is polleni. Trust me today i found my wild caught texas cichlid missing all but a couple scales and the skin on his face is still there . my fh and polleni beat him to dath well near death since last night . i dont exspect him to make it to morning. if you were to get a 65 or preferably 75 you fish keeping possiblilitys are almost endless. only thing cichla was you wouldnt be able to house at one time or another is full grown peacock bass and dovis. almost all other cichlids should work for atleast a year to three years in a 75 .

what i ment to type befor i hit rwrong button in first sentence. was to take all his smaller tanks and sell them to get a bigger one. A used 65 or 75 gal tank from the newspapper or even from the scrath an dent sale at local fish store dont cost much at all. and he could probly scratch up enuf money by selling everything and cutting the neighbors grass . ::)

i picked my 65 gal up used from classifieds for 75 bucks got lights hoods gravel three airpumps heater and a ac500 filter. so good deals are definitly out there. do a google search for local newspappers for your state. type something like newspapper listing for the state of maryland or something like that depending on the state you in. useualy a list of every papper in the state will pop up and he can search all the local and semi local adds for sales. just trying to help is all.

i might if im lucky have a 150 in my 75 gal tank stand glass hoods light and magnum 350 filter and ping 330 with bio wheel filter i pickeed it up for cheap from guy down the street . but ive yet to be able to keep anything in it due to it always turning green sitting in front the porch window . i realy need to cover that window and get it freaking cycled.

I love the sh** out of all the marineland made filters. I'm gonna have to start looking harder I guess. My 120 has the greens sometimes too. A picture window looks in on it and most of the time I keep the shades drawn but when the sunlight hits it in the evening....WOW the colors light up!!! Escondido breeders are in there with JackD breeders and a Polleni and Gr. T. They look awsome in the sun, but I pay the price by scrubbin the glass bout every 3 days.

i dont get the algea on the glass i get the floating type **** that just turns the watter green like mountain dew and it totaly sucks as$ when it happen. my big 150 small compared to other peoples tanks but big to me. goes threw it every now and then takes a couple weeks to clear up but the porch never gewts clear turns green and stays green

tried algea fix only works short term never long term im gonna have to block off the window and use difrent bulbs in my flourcent light. between the two in a matter of two weeks its mountain dew. fish if i have them in it dont seem afected . watter seems fine everytime only problem is it get so green you cant see the fish . and thats pretty dam green. im out of room inside the house for tanks and the closed in porch is only place i got left to inhabit with tanks i will figure something out pretty soon for it tho. also dude hit me up on aol
