Just ran over to my local Wal-mart and walked through the fish section. I prefer to avoid buying from Wal-marts in general, although to be fair the one they just built here in Mooresville, their tanks seem pretty well taken care of, waters clear, colors good. I see fish and then I come back a few weeks later and I see that fish again still alive. Maybe they've got somebody working in that department that cares I don't know. Anyway they have a dragon/ violet Goby which I've seen them have before except this ones 1' long at least. Mouth on this guy is huge. He makes me wish I had a brackish tank. Another surprising thing they know he's brackish, and hes labled that way. Half the employees at Uncle bills (our chain fish store here) don't know what brackish means.

I work at Petsmart. We had a meeting(all Petsmarts had a meeting) and they told us that some Walmarts were piloting(testing out essentially) a pet store with fish and salons and better foods and etc. in their Walmarts. Walmart has literally came out and said that they are going to attack the pet business and actually is going after Petsmart. SO they very well could be doing this in one of the stores near you.

I really hope it fails to high heaven. I love Walmart and all but if their going after the business that I work for and bust my butt over as a lead stocker I hope it fails. The products will be cheaper of course, I mean it is Walmart but Petsmart is hoping that we will have a better customer service then Walmart. So yeah.

Did it take you a while to get hired? I've had interviews with pets mart 4 times now and counting.

Walmart has been running T.V. ads here for pet food. They ARE trying to compete with Petsmart and Petco.

the number 1 issue with all of this is walmart employs people that don't care about learning specifics about a department/ even if peopole care about their job, they are understaffed in their store and need to cover multiple departments. you will NEVER get good advice/help when it comes to pets from a walmart employee unless they are involved in the hobby themselves. I hope it fails too, b/c I dont want to see half the lfs close around the country just so some corporate giant can sell the cream of the crap pet supplies.... yep i said cream of the crap

my product marketing professor said Walmart will intentionally be built in an area and bust out low prices to make all the other stores go out of business then raise up the prices after they take over the area.
i think thats Gansta lol

Please don't think I'm a Wal-mart fan. I was just giving a fair critique of this ones current condition. I mean my dad used to a manager for the Ben Franklin stores and Wal-mart specifically ran them out of business. Sam Walden originally pitched his 'big store' idea to them and when they turned him down and he opened his own store he went after them. Now my dad works for Target, and as I cant get hired anywhere I'm living in the house he pays for. Just to be clear my family and I are not Wal-mart people. If I could find a LFS I would shop there.

Not really. I was working there and at Kroger part time until school ended then went to Petsmart fulltime to work the truck shift after highschool was done.

EXACTLY. That's why Petsmart and others including me don't think it will work out. I mean I would rather go to a petstore(Petsmart or any other pet store actually) just because if I do have a question at least I know it will get answered, most of the times at least. I mean if I was paid practically nothing and the store treated me like a piece of dung I would probably not care either.

how are the fish stores down in mooresville .. i know some people down there didnt know if it was worth the trip

Didnt see the question. We have no fish stores here in Mooresville. Nearest non chain store to me, and that I'm aware of is in Avon. As I said the walmart here has a good looking violet goby if your looking for one. Where are you from and how are the stores there? You said down here in Mooresville, so Indy?
