i just cannot believe it.. how i never noticed these fins before... ..or did it just pop up... Columbian Shark said it happened to him..One of his sharks suddenly had extra fins..if i remenber right he nicknamed the fin a "mating fin.".Very interesting stuff that we probably have the exact way to sex them and both of us were lucky enough to have a pair..heres pics of what i am talking about.. the last pic will be the one with normal fins.. i think is the male.. the other pics are probably the female with the extra fins.. gosh i hope he breeds these cats when he gets them into the big tank..

I remember when he posted those photos of his double finned guy. VERY interesting to see it again!!!
yes especially that we both just have the one with it... he actually discovered something very unique..most of these guys do not get to live past a few inches due to the fact they need brackish water and then into full marine.. they are sold in freshwater so many people buy them and just have no idea... i don't even think there is documentation about this...

I'm totally guilty about buying two little guys not knowing they were brackish. When I finally found out, I felt horrible. It definitely sounds that most of them find that sad fate. So, yes. You guys may be one of the few to actually raise them into adulthood and see this. Keep up the documenting!

thanks.... will do:D

It probably means male, like in sharks with their claspers.

I'm just guessing and don't actually know, so don't take my word for it.

the only reason i thought the one with extra fins was female is because she is fatter..like as if she has eggs... but it could be the other way around.. i have to do more checking

Congratz on the female columbian shark :D

Breakfast just got them again, time for some freshwater!!!

Are you bringing down the salinity to induce breeding, I assume to mimic them swimming into freshwater for spawning?
