Salt would not be needed, imho, if wounds from the ripping of the fins are closed, healed, whatever you choose to call it.

Well, I moved the little disaster into my 40 breeder; raised the temp; and added salt (just to be safe). I can't say he looks better, but he doesn't look any worse. He had started losing an alarming number of scales prior to the move.

In regards to eating, I had one great night where he ate until I thought he was going to burst. I was hoping that would continue, but he's slowed down. He eats a little bit nightly, but no gorging.

This little guy is a fighter. Even my friend says when you look this fish in the eyes, you don't see death; you see determination (my friend can be pseudo-poetic at times)

I attached some pics of his new home. I'll hopefully post pics of his recovery as his fins grow back. Thanks again for the guidance.

You surely are doing your best. Both the aro and you deserve to succeed.

Tiny update:
1. I noticed dark spots under the little guys front fins. I'l try to post pics when I get ahold of my wife's nice camera. Sight-unseen, anyone have any idea what this might be? My big guy has no such spots.

2. Kind of funny thing happened while I was changing his water tonight. I was pouring in 5 gallons of fresh water with a little salt in it. I noticed most of the salt was in the bottom of the bucket, so I grabbed my little bucket to pour some aquarium water in the big bucket when BAM!!! A silver rocket shot out of the tank and into the 5 gallon bucket. I'm pretty sure I yelled Holy $h!t and poured him back into he tank. Little guy is a firecracker. I'm just lucky he jumped into the bucket and not onto the floor I guess.

3. The little guy has been renamed: Sir Vivor. Hoping he lives up to his name.

I like the name Sir Vivor...
Black spots i dont think u need to worry abt it.
Good thing you moved it to a smaller tank and just curious, what do u feed it??

Thanks man.

He eats a few of the floating carnivore sticks each night.

Spots should not bother you.

I start to be convinced that sir Vivor is not supposed to die. Period.

Just a little thanksgiving update on Sir Vivor. Nothing magical in terms of a physical change, but he does seem to be recovering. Posting a couple pics. Note the presence of FINS.
