my biggest columbian shark is from walmart. It was when I first started, I didn't know any better. He's healthy :)

But you shouldn't buy them from there.

Forgive my ignorants, but whats wrong with this walmart place?

I'm in England, we dont have them here, so only ever heard the name a few times but know nothing about them, whats the deal?

Walmart is a big department store and some of them sell fish. Most have aquarium supplies. Theyrarely have employees tht know anything about fiah and if you want to buy fish there you gotta net them yourself. And the fish are almost always sik amd/or underweight.

Oh right... that sounds awefull, luckily, to my knowlege anyway, nothing like that exists here, certainly not a big chain of shops anyway.

my walmart doesnt just sell tanks. they only sell the complete kits which start at $35. and my dad hates my fish obsession. he doesnt want the q tank wasting electricity... and he said it would make a mess setting it up... he wont even let me keep the tank lights on 10 hours a day... luckily my room is very bright.

then go to your lfs and at most it'll be $15.99, and battery powered air pump no electricity needed...next excuse?

You can quarantine a fish in a Rubbermaid container and an old sponge or hob filter. It's nice to have a tank, so you can really get a good look at them, and make sure they're showing no signs of illness, but in a pinch, it will do. So will a 5 gallon bucket with a sponge filter and maybe an extra airstone. It's definitely possible to do it cheaply.
