Wels Catfish anyone???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Rapps had some awhile back. I dont want any part of a fish that gets that big. When I research a fish and find that my 350g is a starter tank, I tend to shy away from trying to own one :grinno:

your right, they might be an acquired taste! I find them neat looking as are all giant cats :D

Rapps did have them............only 3 though!! Thats not many to pass around :D

One thing about them, they can adapt very well.........they do well in cold water and warm water! Mine was outdoors in the hot summer and now still outside while its raining and getting cold and still doing well.

Just saw this episode today.....But, from what I gathered is that they are alot like snakeheads (not as ferocius though) seeing as they live in Germany and invasive in Spain and Greece

not as ferocious? dude if you were bite size, they eat you up lol :) I'm sure if you were a carp or some other fish in the River Ebro or Po, you'd be afraid of wels :)

No Doubt about it, however, the Teeth is my "Ferocious" notery....They aren't Big spiky....

I envy those that have Wels, and if I ever had the $$ or THE SPACE i'd pic one up....

I'm with mkman...the largest wels would inhale the largest channa in a single gulp...

hahahaha :D :D

They are gentle though, there are some youtube videos of divers swimming near one and they follow it around and it turns around to look at them and swims past them. Neat cats.

I hear that you can not eat them after they get big is this true? They become toxic or somthing?

Large fish accumulate polluntants, specifically mercury, as they age and grow...so the bigger the fish, the more likely it is to be toxic.
