Just out of curiosity does anyone know of a catfish thats legal in the states that even remotely resembles a Wels cat? I'm looking to get one for a European native tank I'm starting up . Any help would be appreciated.

I've been reading they aren't that aggressive but will eat anything that will fit in their mouths. I really wouldn't mind that but also it wouldn't bother me if it was a predator like a Wels.

If I could get a Wels in the states I would get one such an awesome fish but illegal in the states since biologist think if they're introduced into the ecosystems they will whip out fish species.

I've seen them for sale online - do you have a link to the regulations outlawing them? Is this something recent?

Just looked online and you're correct their is not a ban as a country you have to go state by state. The people I were talking to and reading comments about them must be from the UK since the fish is banned from there. There is a shady area I was reading with a state like NY where if you import a fish that is harmful to the ecosystem is illegal but there's no ban on catfish who knows. The nice thing about these cats are they top out at 18" so they don't grow to the crazy size of a real wels
