True...but what are the odds that someone can sucessfully get a female Wels and a male Wels of sexual maturity and two separate people just both so happen to release them into the same body of water....don't know about you...but once your dedicated and invested in the hobby and spend $100s of dollars on these fish the thought of someday releasing that fish you own never even crosses your mind...it would be more likely that the a plane carrying the "invasive species" from overseas crashes into a body of water and introduces the fish that way than an actual hobbyist releasing a single specimen into the wild....people who keep the wels, the perch and others don't tend to be the type to release the fish into the wild...people who tend to release fish into the wild tend to be inexperienced novices who don't know what they are doing and don't want to clean little Johnnys fish bowl any more

You would think more advanced fish keepers would be less likely to release a fish into the wild intentionally but all it takes is one kooky person trying to "free Willy". Not to mention accidental releases due to natural disasters etc...

Could a Wels not hybridize with a local catfish?

Oh ladies and gentlemen lol...the swift hand of the law is slowly squeezing the hobby haha. I can see the side of the debate with a wels catfish...being how adaptable they are...but the others are just silly lol. OHHHHH well lol, next comes the other big tropical SA cats, then the rest of the Asian giants, then the NA natives for some reason...then goldfish lol.

ROACH?!?!?!? Here in the uk the roach is all over the place, it's one of the most popular coarse fish. The record is between 4 and 5lb so it dosen't grow that big. It's peaceful and doesn't eat other fish. Who the hell makes these rules, they must be on drugs. No wonder you guys go mad about what fish you may or may not keep.

What is meant by "coarse" fish?

You should see our state laws, anything that looks like a snake is definitely banned. Anything toothy, is usually restricted; it seems some other bias are at play not just from an ecological standpoint.
