Hahaha. This is what i love about this forum. Great serious advice about our wet pets one minute and then the next minute you're getting the piss taken out of you left right and centre.
So true! It wasn't uncommon for people dumping illegal piranhas in the waters.@moneybike that is probably more effective than any ban.
I notice that people who find out there new fish is illegal r more likely to dump it in a lake than if that same fish were legal.
best part, right? people talk of derailers and "trolls", but I think part of what makes a community is how much fun we can make it for each other. Granted this is an educational forum, but learning is SUPPOSED to be fun - I don't remember much of anything that I learned in school from boring, grouchy teachers, but the cool ones that knew how to make learning fun for the students filled my brain to the max.Hahaha. So were people asked to turn their fish in or did they get grandfathered in some how? Here in Alberta we just got banned from owning all Snakeheads. Did some research and it looks like only 1 kind could survive here but better to ban them all. They would not even compensate those who had the rare expensive ones. As an added bonus you basically had to be a member of a fish club to learn of this ban. They didn't have the brains to put out a public notice in the media. Gotta love government rule makers.
People better learn how to shut their mouth in same cases, the officers don't "accident know" you're keeping an illegal species and knock on your doors to ask you give away your wet pets.No being grandfathered in just your your fish being siezed from you. One young guy we know was told give them up or face a 100000 dollar fine. The snakeheads he had were some of rhe smaller tropical ones. You know the ones that thrive in 45 degree water lol.
This is a case of its cheaper to ban everything than re-train your agents on what is and isn't legal within the same species. Agents who confiscate a legal species open the agency to a lawsuit and then its one big ass mess. Here in Alberta we just got banned from owning all Snakeheads.
