Went fishing today!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I only had 6 and one was pushed out of the tank. They weren't going to be kept in the bucket. Just for the day. But they died. So I don't have them anymore. I was going to quarintine them in 15 gallon tanks and a 10 gallon tank. Then I would add them to my tank according to how they survive and aggresion. The rest would go in my 55 until I get my 500. Then ill add them in with my cichlids. I want to do a native/cichlid tank. I'm getting more next week. Just gonna quarintine them.

Nice! One of the crappies/blugills died from being bullied :( I caught him like 10 hours ago and had him stringed all day and I saw a ton of different fish come and nibble on him. He had black ick too, but he was like 2" and the others were double his size and just wrecked him! They all have great personalities too! Just from the bucket I can already tell them apart from the way they act.(i can tell only two apart right now lol)

What do you mean when you say "stringed all day"? Like on a stringer?

Cichlids plus natives dont mix......and your 55 gal is already way over stocked if you put in more full grown fish your risking a spike in ammonia and all of your fishes lives.......if you do decide to go through with native cichlid tank wait until after your big tank is built......tank first fish later

Ya the first one. Was on a stringed.

Well I'm going to start by saying your doing so many things wrong, I don't even know where to start.....

Fish, like all living creatures, need oxygen to live. They use their gills to breathe oxygen in the water. A stringer is passed through the fishes gills, which doesn't allow it to breathe well, if at all. So the answer to why it died should be quite obvious now.

I'm currently at work, but I will finish addressing all of your problems when I'm off.

Andrew I know your young and inexperianced but you need to read up on fish a lot more. Read up on natives they are quite differant from tropicals, as far as water temp and agressiveness. You will not find any cichlids in New Jersey unless it was dumped there by an irresponsible fish keeper.Don't be afraid to ask any questions Just the fact that you thought the fish would be ok in a bucket says you need to read up on fish, Not flaming you just think you need to learn more before even thinking about a 500 gallon build. Ask if you don't know. Also mixing natives and cichlids is only for the experianced keepers.

I agree with the last post, right now you should be focusing on learning as much as you can about fish keeping in general as well as specific fish such as native vs tropical. The web is a great place a d there are some nice books out there. A lot of people on here have a small fish book library of their own. I do and it has helped me a lot. Give it some time and learning and you will be an expert soon enough. Dont keep going the way you are though, you will just end up disappointed with yourself and the hobby

I didn't catch cichlids? Where did you read that? I caught some natives that's it. I was also fishing out of new York state. I have other houses.
