I'm mainly going with bantam breeds that make good pets so I can possibly sell some chicks later on along with getting some "free" eggs. They won't be free range (since I live in town) but they will have a large chicken run fenced off for em with a cover over it to keep em in along with protecting them from raptors. I figure a run roughly 30ft long and 8-10ft wide should be plenty of space for a bunch of tiny birds. Also planning on getting some guineas for extra security for the lil guys. The main problem I'm going to be facing is sealing the coup up tight enough to where no raccoons or skunks can get in when I lock it up every night.
Lol the only way ik to accurately determine a chicks sex is to basically vent it kinda like a fish but a bit more invasive. Basically ya got to spread the cloaca open to see if the chick has a bump inside or not. If it's got a bump it's a male, no bump and it's a female. Granted I still would say it's easier to just let em grow up and wait for em to show their gender themselves.Sounds like you’ll have a nice setup.
I think keeping coons and skunks out shouldn’t be too hard. Lay brick or cement for the foundation and use metal to cover the sides a couple feet up. I think that would keep them safe from even really determined predators

I **think** I have 3 boys and 7 girls based off their wing shape. But I don’t know how accurate that is. Supposedly that means that dark chick in the last picture is a pullet, but it’s crest is more pronounced then the other two I have of the same variety ??
Lol yeah it's a bit too invasive for my liking too. Hopefully none of your roosters end up like how ours (Danny) was. Once he hit maturity he became really mean, would try to spur most anybody he wanted to. Lol had to break a tennis racket over that bird before he got the hint not to mess with me. Ended up having to butcher that bird, still have him in the deep freeze waiting for some BBQ sauce.
Yeah atleast from my experiences roosters are extremely mean. Danny would pretend to walk away from ya but if you turned your back to him immediately he would attack. Didn't help that he had 1.5in long spurs either.
