I would recommend the 4000, 5000 or 6000 Quiet Ones, but I wouldn't go any bigger. The design changes, and like Rally said, they get a LOT louder.

Mine are finally dying, but I got them used and they most likely had a really hard life before I got them

Who is the manufacturer of the 5000 pump? Ah ok. Quite one is the actual manufacturer..lol

Would you use one 5000 on a 240 gallon or would you recommend two?

I have one on my 120 and I would not want anyless. I really wish i had gotten a bigger over flow and the 6000. But for turn over rate the 1 5000 would give you about a 4 turn over on your 240g and 75g sump. And that is at zero head height. So it would work OK but i would do 2 if you can over flow that much GPH.

i got a mag drive 12.5 on my 220 and 30 gallon sump kinda small sump but it has been doing fine the pump is quiet and i have never had a problem it has benn running for two years on several different tanks

It's Pentair. And stay away from the bigger ones.

If you have the money the most reliable pump you can buy is a jap motored iwaki. I have a small 20rxlt that I bought used, I think it's around 7-8 years old and still pumping great. The iwakis are known to last 10+ years and I've know the Georgia Aquarium uses them on their smaller setups.

I will be running 2 mag18's on my 240. I currently only have one running until I mod my overflows to take more water. Quiet and I have had good luck with the mag pumps. I have one on my pond and it sucks up leaves sticks and all kinds of junk and gets clogged but a fast cleaning and it pumps strong day after day.

I had an Iwaki on a reef tank...yes it ran for many years but it was loud. I was going to do a reflo barracuda on mine to have disposable flow but needed the room in the stand so I went internal.

Mag's are tough too they run well they, like the iwakis are also a little loud and hot, but I'll take reliability over comfort any day. Running 2 mags is also a great option as mags are cheap and the likehood of two pumps failing at the same time is unlikely. I used to have a 30 gal reef tank and I was on reefcentral so I know all the pumps, and I've got to say the best pump money could buy is probably a red dragon pump...but the price for one is probably more than your whole setup.

I've had horrible luck with the 9000 and 14000. I have a 4000 that has been runing for years without a problem.
