Wet/Dry vs Canister

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm setting up my 90g (freshewater) with a wet/dry. This will be my first. Several reason's:
  • they appear to be easier to change media/filter pads, etc.
  • they hold more water mass to help stabilize water fluctuations (for me an extra 10 gallons)
  • they help put more O2 in the water (though this can be bad too)
  • they have more surface area for biological filtration
  • are easier to put things in (like peat, or carbon chips, etc, heater, skimmer)
Some not so good reasons:
  • they take out CO2 which does no favors to live plants.
  • They take up much space under the aquarium.
Hope this helps.

Had the same delemma last year and opted for an Eheim 2262 for my 175g Bowfront, main reasons being noise, smell, and worry over open water/flooding, (I know it's easily preventable).

Very happy with the Eheim 2262, what a monster, just my two cents, can't knock sumps.
