Honda - I kept a pair of Cichlasoma managuense(Jaguars) in a 125 for a couple of years. I think they're some of the most beautiful fish around and they've got personality plus (as in, they would charge the glass when I came in the room as if to say "this is OUR ROOM! BACK OFF!"). They're a lot of fun and my pair spawned frequently. - CN
The trimac would work fine and is a good bet on personality. Paratheraps species are more variable and may not be a responsive as you are looking for. A male jag would be good. All the fish in my signature are single specimen, male wet pets and I'm growing out some more for another tank.
If you can upgrade just a tab bigger...180+? A dovii should satisfy your need of a true cichlid monster. I'm getting one soon after I think I have done more than enough homework about these monsters. I want to keep one to at least 10 years
18 inch wide tanks limit u but well in my opinion they do
hard to keep a 15inc or more long fish in an 18 inch wide tank
maybe a pair of texas something simillar
im probably going to go with a trimac from jeff rapps. is there anything i should know about them like specific water quality or things like that ? Can you sex one at a 1.5"?

The mighty trimac can just about live in a septic tank. However, I'd do weekly waterchanges and provide good filtration for overall fish happiness (if there is such a thing) and health. Females will have a dark (black) spot or blotch midway of the dorsal fin while males will not have the mark on their dorsal. That makes them easy to sex IMO. Kinda like the Cyanoguttatus species. I don't know if they will show the dorsal mark at 1.5", probably not.
