Lost lots same way, cept i don't learn!!!

that sucks 8'' that is a BIG LOSS! how long have u had him

sorry man, i had a 13" oscar that jumped to its death about a year ago to and it sucks

My wife got me a tigrinis cat for our anniversary one year. I found it on the fish room floor dead one morning, it jumped out of a 1" gap. That one really hurt!

I was sitting at my computer about two days ago and all of a sudden I heard this big splash then a thumb and one of my piranhas jumped out of the back of the tank (it was covered but he knocked the top off!) Luckily I was sitting here so I could throw him back in the tank. Now he has a gash above his eye, but he will heal by next week.

Glad you were there, you might look into some latches, they look like hinges and are only a coulpe bucks at the hardware store, they glue right on to the tank. I had to do that with eels because they would brace against the tank bottom and push the lid up.

i had a 15 in silver arowana and my boyfriend and i went away for 2 days to celebrate our anniversary when we came back "stretch" was dried up on the carpet stiff as a board he managed to get through a very small opening where teh intake outtake tubes were for our canister filter. we still dont knoe how he managed to escape. but his mom did us a favor and fed them one day for us so i wonder if he escaped then

My 16x14 Pacu jumped last week, found him almost on the other side of the garage.

why do they jump? dont they like their surroundings? or the water? or what? do flowerhorns jump too?

My 8" Oscar jumped tank on Thursday - slipped out of a 2" gap in the glass lid that I had failed to get recut after breaking it a few months back. Didn't find him until Friday morning shrivelled up on the living room floor. It was one of those "what's that" moments when I saw the lump sitting there. Didn't even clue in until I was right overtop of him.

Lesson learned - glass was recut and placed over tank by Sunday

I had an oscar once that would jump out of the tank everytime I opened it in anticipation of being fed. Even if I wasn't feeding them at the time. I quickly learned to throw a quick pinch of food in there first, he would inevitably hit the top, but then start eating, then I could open the top and put the rest of the food in there.

Sorry for your loss. :(
