What a joy it is to have Multiple Tank Syndrome!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The red tail cuda is awesome, but they’re not as entertaining as cichlids are if you watch the tank for more than 15 minutes lol
Are you in the US? I see Hujetas online all the time
I am in the US, Massachusetts. I meant that when I first got into the hobby I’d see them in person frequently but not in years- my state seems to be full of ppl who keep African rift lakes and flowerhorns neither are fish that I still have interest in. I could order I suppose, I order enough other fish!

i have two granny’s myself got up to 8-10” quick but slow growing since. They go nuts when I feed pellets but otherwise they’re a less expensive alternative to driftwood

You’d hate my 120 lol 5 bichirs, a tiger pike and a Rhamphochromis

Not my cup of tea in terms of stocking lol, but if you mean inactivity as well, that does sound somewhat inactive.
Rather boring to watch fish sitting around if you ask me.

I will say, though, that your black dragon fighting fish would very much be my cup of tea. Never heard of them until I saw it listed in your tank setups and they are stunning.

I think exoticfishshop has Hujetas, you could probably pick them up. My granny went from 4”-9” in about 6 weeks, but then hit a wall, I’m good with them growing slow since I know they get massive

I only have one aquarium right now. But with a 180-210 gallon aquarium coming in. I am already thinking of more!
I will have 2 tanks then. the big 6 foot and my 75.
The bigger tank will be south american predators and cichlids and the 75 will be african oddballs featuring elephant noses and african butterflyfish and polypterus.
Already thinking about doing a 55 gallon discus tank and a saltwater tank lmao

My bichirs are actually pretty active, relatively of course
I forgot about that dragon betta, can’t say I’d recommend one. I think they’re very inbred, after a couple months he started getting tumors all over and I had to put it down. It was awesome looking though

Interesting on how (relatively) active your bichirs are. All the videos I've seen of them depict fairly sedentary fish, but that might just be because most of those are of bichir substrate on this subreddit lol.

That sounds gruesome, but unsurprising. With such a bread and butter fish, there's bound to be inbreeding (with goldfish and neons also being 2 good examples of it).

My ornate bichir is about 17” and very active and even seems to beg for food like a cichlid. It lives with a hemibagras nemurus, group of amphilophus and a bifasciata

My bichirs come out and are all over the place several times a day but then go back to laying around. I’m not sure why, but it’s always around the same times and they’ll be active for about an hour each time
Ya the betta was pretty bad, each tumor was about 10% of his size
