WHAT A LOCAL FISH STORE SHOULD BE?

Some fish store eventually cater to certain areas more. You got to have a little of everything. Odd ball fish are not always good sellers. But good to have a connection to get them on request. You got to stock all your bred and butter fish for the average aquariest. I think after your first year you will get a feel of your customer what they want. I like stores that don't smell bad. Have nice wide asiles so your not bumping people to look at fish. I like display tanks shows your knowledge of what you can do and what can be done. Good knowledgeable staff open early and close late.

Just saw this thread is 7 years old. How is business been?

I am confused by this... Everybody gets upset that nobody uses the "search" feature... Which would bring up Old threads.

So people want to add to this, maybe someday another person will want to open an LFS, and they find this thread...

I'm just confused... If we shouldn't add to the thread just because its old.... We might as well just delete the old threads and delete the search feature.

My biggest want from an LFS is knowledge. I want to know honest facts about a fish, the Real size of the fish... Don't tell me what you think I wanna hear to make me buy it... Beacuse now your playing petsmco salesman...

I think with certain threads, it doesn't matter how old it is as long as it has good information. Threads that ask for "IDs" or "what should I stock my tank" threads or "what should I feed my fish" threads shouldn't be bumped, but threads like these I enjoy seeing. I've actually never seen this thread and it's a good discussion subject to see what people look for that determines a "good" lfs.

Agreed! Finding a LFS with good knowledge can be hard, most (in my experience) could care less what they tell you so long as they make the sale!

I would rather they tell me NO, that wont work in your tank. Instead of "yea, they will be fine" just for them to either kill or be killed, or outgrow the tank in months.

fish such as... doviis, umbees, and about every cichlid that is cool, and of course common stuff like oscars and dempseys...maybe some odd fish like clown knives, lima shovelnoses and arawanas but no huge fish that get over 3 feet as hese will not get a good home... also small community fish beacause newbs always like them as well as some experts here on mfk with amazing planted tanks.... Should cary tanks that are at least 100 gallons as the biggest for reasonable prices...You could also just display a few tanks and order them in for the costemers to save space in shop...Also carry small tanks for newbs but not too small, like smallest 10 gallons.... Fish food that peaople like us use, like hikari cichlid pellets, omega one, massovore delight, NLS, and of cosrse brands like tetra and topfinn... large pythons, for us MFks we have big tanks and need big and fast pythons... ,powerstrips, aquarium equitmesnt for reonable prices beacause if prices are high people will order online instead... Cheap gravel like the stuff you get at home depto, rocks, cool decor, coreful gravel, ... You have to relize most fishkeepers are newbs with small tanks so maybe half the fish can be cool and half can be newb fish to make people come... and half cool equitment and stuff and half newb stuff to keep the store alive... also sell other pets food to help keep the store alive... have some 100+ gallon display tanks to make people come and stay longer to watch them... Also to inspire people to buy big tanks with cool fish... and give good advice to help people from beginers to experts... my 2 cents...
