What are some fast growing fish?

my gold tinfoil barbs... and my bala sharks. (dont own anymore)

how big did the bala sharks get? and would you recommend them over columbians?

My green terror grew about 1" in 3-4 months, not fast growers.

That's odd. Like most larger cichlids,they should grow around a 1" a month. At least mine did.

bala sharks can get to about 12 inches. i had a pair at 10inches each... columbian sharks(catfish) uh yea because columbians need to be in brackish water...

and for the OP you just set up an African cichlid tank.

African cichlids, No Oscars in 55gallons....Balas are schooling and get potentially over a foot, and Silver Tipped Catfish, aka Columbian "Sharks" get to a foot and are brackish/saltwater

No, don't do that. My Oscars hit 14" before they're 2 yrs old. A 55 isn't big enough for one and honestly (not being rude) it doesn't sound like you really know what you want. Reseach some different Cichlids. Look up Rainbow Cichlds. They're cool, stay under 4-5" and gentle enough you could have several different kinds of tank mates. They'd be fine in a 55 g.

catfish ~ to name one in particular-Achara cats can literaly grow up to 15/20 x's their size in a month when they are babies
