A 55 would be perfect as a species tank for a couple bluegills. They are agressive and would need to be male/ female or just keep the more colorful male with crayfish! Everyone on this forum says that bluegills are slow growers, but I have NEVER been able to keep them from growing quickly any of the times that I have brought fry up from my farm pond.
Just last week I was rakeing leaves from the pond and collected around a dozen large crayfish and half a dozen bluegill fry under an inch. All six are now over the inch mark and have eaten EVERYTHING that I have thrown into the tank!
Krill, Bloodworm, Tetra Color Crisps, Mysis Shrimp, Finely chopped market fish fillet, brine shrimp, finely chopped market shrimp and scallop! Awsome color on a awsome cool fish that does not even require a heater! Can't beat it with a hard PP!
