i have a 5 gallon with a betta in it. trying to find the best cleaning fish for thaT TANK OR cleaning animal?

No cleaner fish for that tank. Small snails (pond snails, MTS, or true ramshorns) would work. Ghost shrimp are good cleaners, but your betta might kill them.

I should also point out that no animal will reduce the need for regular tank maintenance.

^ agreed

I had a couple ghost shrimp in with my beta and I didn't have any probs but they were also in a 10gal

What about a couple pygmy cories? They stay small...I have 2 in my community tank they are always together but then again it's a 30 gallon. I always thought anything under 10 gallons is a tough tank to keep healthy anyway. I still like the idea of a ghost shrimp or two I doubt they'd increase the bio load that drastically.
