I really do not think one is more intelligent than others. I do think some are more personable. In that case a would say the oscar and pacu are up there.

There are definitely varying levels of intelligence amongst SA/CA cichlids, but the question, again, is what are we measuring as "intelligence"?
A fish that only eats out of your hands, a fish that will let you pet him for food. a fish that only likes you no one else. A fish that knows whats coming like my oscars hate it when i pull the bucket and syphon out.
wouldn't that be the opposite? in the wild, the fish that get accustomed to being fed by humans are the ones that die first. shouldn't your skiddish fish that hides and only comes out when the food is near and dart for it, then goes back to hiding be the more intelligent ones?
A number of species would do these things. How is one more intelligent than the other?
I had a earth eater and a parrot fish they both liked eating there own crap.. I watched closely, like most fish they taste the poo and then spit it out, but these two cleaned the tank I thought it was sick when I first spot them eating there crap, thought it helped me by cleaning the tank lol No other fish I've owned done that. Look at the piranha measure it with a dovii which one is smarter? dovii, dovii's are loners in the wild and are aggressive, dovii's take care of them self's. while piranhas have to be in packs other wise they will get eaten or killed.
this is not the wild, this is a home aquarium
