what are the tropical temp snakeheads?

Hi,
not all snakeheads come from asia, there are three african species.
and from the asian species, some live in really highh altitude in small streams, for them 20°c is really the upper level of the temperatire range

the african snakeheads are all truely tropical, a lot of the asian are subtropical,
best tropical for beginners are gachua/limbata and orientalis.

nice fishbase quote, but fishbase does not know everything, and in the case of channa its surely often very wrong !!
its not really known that this species really exists, a drawing leads to the conclusion its a misidentification of C. aurantimaculata, which truely are subtropical !! Otherwise it could be a misidentificated gachua, or a gachua near species. The region northern India and Bhutan is therefor a precise identification for subtropical fish from high altitude.

Also found in higher altitude, was the first snakehead to be described scientifically and one of the first bred in aquaria, in unheated, as all aquaria were unheated in the early years ofth e20th century. I keep mine at a raneg between 10°c and 25°C, they breed at 20 to 22°C therefor NOT tropical, they are subtropicals.!!

Antler who has kept and bred loads of channa) and dont trust old listings that are not maintained well.

Brucki, OK, so most channas are tropical. You have pointed it out too (I also didn't bother counting). Thats what the thread starter was asking. And please don't demean fishbase. Most hobbyist like using it. If you people are so on about channas, you should contribute to fishbase sincerely. Thats all I have to say. Hey I don't really even like channas!!
