What are you feeding your Bichirs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know this is probably a stupid question but is there anything you shouldn't feed your bichir that he might eat. I ask because one of my housemates who works as a butcher at a grocery store told me tonight he might be able to get scraps of salmon and other fish for free and I wanted to make sure it was bichir safe

I would think any white fish would be ok

i think this is a great question! I didn't know the answer either. That's sweet you have access to free fish! Your polys are gonna be real happy. :)

Probably leaves some residue in ur tank. Needs to be cleaned up with a paper towel on the surface or use a skimmer.

ok so if it's just a matter of cleaning oil off water surface with a paper towel it might be a rare treat for them
It should be. Anything oily or fatty can lead t far deposition in fish organs and premature death. Supposedly read should be up to 20% of all fish diet.

My albino poly is very small. Only about 2 inches. He's very slow to realize food has reached the bottom. By that time most of it is gone. I'm currently feeding at night as i turn off the lights hoping he gets some but i cant be sure.
