So you can't educate so government should step in and direct us what to do. That's not liberal that's socialism. Not only does it not work (see Jaws posts) but it goes down that road. We are uneducated thus we need to be lead. How is it that you don't see the big brother aspect? Oh it's just a $20 fee. Don't worry. It's really the best thing for all of us!
Well count me out. I will not pay it and I will not be directed on how to keep my fish.
And Canada/ canucks can do whatever they want. Permit their oscars and pacus. Pay fees and more fees. Ban internet trade with the US. Pay the local fish warden. Whatever. I don't care. Just not in the USA.

They dont like that. When they call for regulation but dont appreciate when the word government gets mentioned how do you even discuss this unless its in agreement ? One example was a permit to keep snakes or exotics in NJ...one of the most heavily taxed states in the country. The last resort is bringing up invasives which has nothong to do with the OP.
Yeah i'll pass as well. Not too long before the this thread has run its course get mentioned.

... I dont believe in punishing the competent keepers because of the idiots...
It already happens in the spheres that matter to us incomparably more than our hobby. In monetary terms. Just a few examples where it is legislatively established that everybody must pay for the damage done by somebody: car accident insurance, health insurance, and the public damages from crime and our penitentiary system. These payments affect our life greatly as insurance premiums and taxation. It's already accepted and imbedded in the culture of irresponsibility, most everyone thinks in those terms, and extending it to fish would only be natural to the public at large. It will be thought of so natural that people will be thinking "There ain't anything else we can do!".

*

I became aware of the recent situation which I try to not divulge. One of our dearest MFKers, a great, benevolent, and highly experienced contributor and friend, in the USA was paid a surprise visit by 7 armed fish and wildlife rangers in full gear at his home, who confiscated his beloved, very precious and most unique pet fish (not a dangerous kind at all) because of the recently passed prohibitive regulation. Now if there ever was a guy who would keep his pet right, it'd be him. It crushed him and spilled his guts on the floor, figuratively speaking.

Another MFKer suffered the same fate 2 weeks prior with the same fish species.

BTW: they use MFK to keep track. Yes. You're welcome. We are all on the radar and the surface-to-air missiles are loaded and pointed. We better prove to be the beehive of knowledge and positivity, not a hornet nest of troublemakers.

At last. Somebody who has common sense. And yes, believe me they are watching and listening.
You people think this is a joke? This is no joke.

LOL, maybe I should pass the bong so everyone can chillax a bit, Dave. Perfectly legal up here. :)

Viktor - what was the species, an invasive in that State?
Yeah it's legal hear too RD. Love the state. The government and taxes? Not so much.....

I get your point but it doesnt change the fact or make it more acceptable to continue to add on to idiotic practices. Neither of us have a say in what actually happens...regardless this is my opinion. I have thoughts on the points you made but again cannot express them. These discussions are like going to a fist fight with one arm tied behind your back

Im aware of the two members you speak of. Spoke to one of them a few weeks ago. Theres also a 3rd that has a similar story. Imo these people who are clamoring for this regulation have no idea what they are asking for. I wont comment any further on the personal/private matters other members have endured so count me out lol

I think we should all respect their privacy and leave this part of the convo as is. Mentioning the species or state may give their identities away.

Problem is, it almost always goes back to fish considered invasive. As already mentioned, the govt doesn't give a rats ass about tropical fish, they are killed by the millions every year, and their overall regulation, including feed (compared to dogs, cats etc) is minimal, with overall limp wristed enforcement. That's the part that you guys don't seem to grasp - invasive species (even potential of) is always the core of the issue - in the govt's mind. Big brother doesn't care what Joe Hobbyist thinks about the care of a Pacu, but the moment that someone at the Govt feels it can invade natural waterways, it comes under a magnifying glass.

I second RD! Let's remember we are friends here, not enemies.

But so far, I think it's been pretty nice and civil, IMHO.

Yes, Sir, you got it, a (potentially) invasive species. None have invaded anywhere in the states yet. This is all preemptive strikes!

Agree with Jaws. No species, no state will be mentioned. Gotta respect our MFKers and not add insult to their injuries.

I think RD. as usual has brought some much needed clarity to our babble :) I am glad the rights movement is so far behind yet. But they are trying. No one believed 30 years ago that certain advances would be made by certain minority groups, which are mainstream now............

So there it is, exactly what I figured. If you guys want to fight the good fight, you better understand who the enemy is, and how their minds work. It's always about invasive species, even if they aren't. 10 million dead pacu & oscars later, no one will still care.
