what bichir for my 180g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would get an ornate in a heartbeat if i could afford to spend the $80 on one 4" fish. I'm probably going to end up getting an endlicheri instead. They don't have to be rare either; my senegalus is one of my most interesting fish!

There are many types of bichirs out there that have not been listed.
ornates and senes would be the most common.
In a 180 you can go with 20 bichirs.

I have 3 oscars, 2 convicts, 1 green terror, 1 jack and 1 chocolate pleco. What would you choose with best personality and look?
Best personality and looks I'd go with 2 delhezi, 2 albino senes, 2 ornates and 2 endlicheris.
albinos would get roughly 10" and are cheap(10-$15)
delhezis about 15"(30-$40)
ornates about 20-24"(30-$40)
endlicheris about 20-24" but in rare cases 30"(50-$75)

Palmas polli never stay still it seems, tons of personality(14" and about $30).

ow ok i didn't realize that. ya i worry about the female not the male but they both are f1s from rapps, the male convict is a brute and is getting a hump on its head and has no problem taking on anything including my hand. i will have to look into them. i was looking for something that had a lot of personality and didn't hide. i also forgot to add that im growing out an acara but i can't think of the name.

As much as people want to think otherwise bichirs are peaceful fish. They should be kept wth other large peaceful fish.
I think if your convict is doing that with your hand a bichir might not hold up too long also.

That was only when they were breeding, he isn't really that bad, maybe a nip at a pleco once or twice but he is usually pretty good, him and the green terror get into it once and a while but otherwise the tank is very peaceful, the oscars don't even fight their like a school no lie

I don't put oscars in the agressive catergory(except when mating).
I put them in the curious catergory:D.
I think if you went with an ornate or a endlicheri you'd be ok and very happy with your choice. My ornates never hide and the endlicheris(as with most bichirs) like it dark so they stay under the big piece of driftwood. Its a very large piece with a huge open underside so it's not like you can't see them.
King-el had some endlicheris rip apart his 8" midas but he also has like 20 of them. So the eating your cons statement may not hold true but they will hit the 20" mark sooner or later.
