I have a total of three Eheim 2217's and one fluval 105. Love the Ehiems but the parts availability does kind of suck. I broke a valve during a middle of the night filter change once and had to crazy glue it together for the night then drive an hour in the morning to pick up parts. The next day I bought a Fluval for a smaller tank and its okay. Its on a heavily planted tank and the flow dies off really quick but no other real issues.

I have a Rena so far I really like it, but I don't no think its flow rating is accurate. Also I have heard fluval are not good quality is this true?

Well usually the advertised flow rate is with the canister empty. For instance a has a advertised flow rate of 350 gph but on the box it says full of media it is 187 gph.
Also I had a fluval 403 and Sold it a day later, I didnt have any luck with it and I dont think I would every buy another fluval, besides a fx5 possibly if it is going on a tank with gravel.
I run Eheim 2217, Fluval FX5, AC 70 and AC 110 on a 55g. Love both canisters but would like to replace the 2217 with a 2262. Maybe add another FX5, absolute beast.
you forgot to mention the VERY sweet Sun Sun canister filter. sun sun makes the marineland C series can filters in fact... and you can buy a sunsun for 100bucks shipped to your door. 530gpf PLENTY of room for media.
i have cascade 500 on a 10 gallon planted, and marineland magnum 350 and a emperor 400 hob on a 55 gallon cichlid tank. An today im ordering an xp4 to replace the emperor. No complaints about the cascade, love the lock off valves.
On the magnum it filters fine, i just think the lid design is terrible compared to what it could be and what compared to competitors have. You just have to pay attention to when you put it back together.
I cant wait to get the xp4 lol, im planning for the future when i get a bigger tank lol
