My 12 yr old son heard it and didn't know what it was, he came and got me and kept saying, "Mom, the Loach tank is cracking!" Scared the bejesus out of me until I heard the noise he was talking about and knew it was the Loaches, I'd just turned the lights out and fed them lol My son just rolled his eyes and eyes and said, "Well, do they have to be so loud??"
Try a tank full of tiger loaches and you'll be surprised how loud these can click.:D Are yours clowns?

Yep, mine are Clown Loaches. 16 of them in the 150 gal tank. It's pretty cool that they do that. I've never seen or looked up Tiger Loaches. (I've got some Queen Loaches, that's not the same thing, is it?)

Queen loaches are most likely Botia dario. Common names tend to suck as some species share the same name.

Look on the following for tiger loach searches.
1. Syncrossus helodes
2. Syncrossus hymenophysa
3. Syncrossus reversa
4. Syncrossus beauforti
5. Syncrossus berdmorei

Now I must warn you tiger loaches are very nasty fish and are compatible only with loaches of similar temperament. A few to mention are skunk loaches (Yasuhikotakia morleti), orange-finned loaches (Y. modesta) and sun loaches (Y. eos). Clowns are not compatible with them and will only be harassed to death.

If you have any more questions, another thread will help and I can help you from there.:)

I've noticed mine doing it after I clean algae with the magnet thing. they swarm around it and click. I don't think they eat the algae fragments stuck to it though, so I'm not sure why they do this? The other time I noticed was when a flake of food had gotten stuck to the glass just above the water line. They were pushing up out of the water trying to eat it off, making extremely load noises. It scared the crap out of me, because I thought my tank was about to collapse or something. Just happy clowns though. :)

This first time I heard my clown loaches clicking I thought I had a leak in my tank. Then I figured it was when they were happy.
