  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Cant let the OG JD be left out of the running.
Often overlooked, But they sport excellent full pearl fins.

Unless you claim to have a higher knowledge on Cichlids than Heiko Bleher then I'd like to inform you Blood Parrots are balloon variety's of the Central American Cichlid Amphilophus Labiatus (the Red Devil).

How does he know?

he introduced them into the trade.

This is also stated on many other sites, the 'hybrid with a Heros Efaciatus or Vieja Synspila' theory is very very dated.

Straying a little off topic here, but since the Hybrid Section description for this forum includes the discussion of Blood Parrots, that means this section is for CA/SA Cichlids - Please provide sources to back up your statement.

I read a few Heiko Bleher articles and forum posts about blood parrots and Flowerhorns. He states that Blood Parrots are actually mutated Citrinellus that he collected from Central America and transported to Taiwan. He says that they are not hybrids at all.....Anyway, great pics guys. There's some serious finnage going on!

I dont believe Heiko Bleher ever claims to have collected/created the Blood Parrot. From what I understand he brought fish to SE Asia that ended up creating the OG flowerhorns like Ancient Warship and those types in the early 90's.

It is genetically impossible for any type of Heroes cross to be responsible for the Blood Parrot. Labiatus X Synspilum create several king kong parrot type fish, or early stages of the blood parrot. So Glenbo, You are semi-correct with the balloon process, But there is definatly Syn. in the genetic make-up.
But I am really not sure what this has to do with this thread. Lets see some fins.

Gotta agree with ya. Hard to beat the color in some of the earth eaters, but nothing is more impressive then a large proud male argentea sporting his full finnage.

Pics below is from Angler when he owned my Argenetea

http://www.perthcichlid.com.au/forum/index.php?showtopic=27801&st=20 read post 27. They are Bleher's words not mine. I found this link on this site actually. There's plenty more articles on the web though. Now don't think that I am arguing this claim. I was just calrifying what Glenbo was referring to. I don't even keep FH or BP. So I won't derail any further.
Your Argentea is a showpiece! I love the purple sheen in the fins. Sadly, I lost my growout this week during a water change. Long story but totally my fault.
