What Cichlids can breed w/ a RD?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's what I was thinking, my breeder project is failing horribly so I have 2 spare tanks in theory.

I think I'm just gonna feed them all to her.

I'm thinking of using the divider method but since she digs all day, I'm going to have to go with a flat rock and no substrate

Your 37g wouldnt make a good tank for breeding Red Devils.
Thats not even enough space to keep a small Red Devil.

I love hybrids, and the more interesting and quirky hybrids we can get, the better. Diversity makes this hobby wonderful. Screw breeding it with ANOTHER Red Devil, try a flowerhorn or a texas.

the hybrid section would of been better for this topic. that is if you really wanted to bred hybrids.

devils once in isolation CAN be very hard to re socialize. a divider would most defiantly be needed. 7inches for a female is a formidable adversary for any other cichlid to deal with. so wile your looking for a male, i would get him a bit bigger.

first things first. get yourself a larger tank, no way a RD is going to breed with ANYTHING in such a small tank. Get yourself a 75 at the very least!

Ten years ago I bred Some midas in a 20 gallon standard. Male was 7 inches and female was 5. They bred over and over. Not advisable but it can happen. :)

sounds cool i would try a texas im trying a male midas and female dovii now lots of nest building but thats about it. if your not going to sell the fry i say go for it. 7in is big to get them to pair off i would try a divider.

Jags, texas, trimac, maybe a festae, or this one is my fav; a pic of it is on a thread about troubles with red devil fry; it is a rd and a bichon poo (what I like to call "*****in' Poop"), which is a hybrid itself (a bichon friese X a poodle)

I snagged a 4.5" male last week who is residing in quarantine at the moment. Already has his nuchal hump showing.

And no...Im not putting him in the 37gal :D
