What cichlids can go into an 85gal hex?

You could do 3-4 pairs of dwarf cichlids .

You need to be sticking to fish under 6" to have it properly stocked imo and more importantly a happy fish. Firemouth pair would probably fit the bill and would more than likely bang glass at you. Butti's are african and get to like 16" so no go. Honestly angels and discus would love that tank and wouldnt get too big.
 
I think I would build a cool rock formation in the center and do some Africans. A few peacocks would look awesome in there.

The ones I've kept are very interested in what is going on around them, including what you're doing. Very observant fish of their surroundings

Hmmm two 10"+ Texas + other fish + little elbow room = a problem or death. One Texas needs a bigger footprint let alone two.

If you want a health long term tank then I stay with cichlids on bigger then 6". That way you can keep them in that tank without upgrading. Anything bigger then 6" will require a larger footprints to live comfortably .
