what do BGK eat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi, I have one gkf who would not come out of his cave (which he shares with a clown loach). So for several days I would thaw out some blood worms and put them near his cave right after the lights go out. Now I just put the worms in one of those cone dispensers as soon as the lights go out and here he comes! They are great fun to watch under the moon lights. I've heard you could have two BUT,it needs to be a realy big tank so they can establish there own territory. Good luck, and yes reasearch is a good thing!

If you are going to feed at night, plan on never ever seeing your knifefish come out.

If you like to see your fish, feed with the lights on. He will come out to eat... fish do not starve themselves to deaths (except stupid rays). He will get more comfortable with the light and might eventually not hate it so much.

just make sure they have a cave to retreat to.

I just fed my fish like normal at my normal times until my bgk came out to eat and ate the same thing (pellets) as my other fish. Waiting them out always works.

BGK will eat almost anything, sinking pellets, shrimps, fishes, but they go nuts when they smell worms earthworms, tubifex worms, bloodworms etc. They usually hunt at night but if you plan on feeding it during the day, at least put some lights out or give him a decent cave that he can hide onto. Put the food on the cave and see that he will eat those crazy.

sinking pellets, blood worms, small guppies are fine at that size. BGKs can reach 20" because someone has a 20" BGK in this forum. A 100 would be good for life I think but just keep them in a grow out tank for awhile until they reach a certain size where you have to put them in a bigger tank. I hope that helps.

thanks everyone In here still I have one more question
are BKF very sensitive to medicines like if I treat them with some medicines should I treat them in especial way or just like other fish ??

My CK loves frozen blood worms, as soon as they drop in, the angels attack them and once they start to sink they loose intrest, and the clown is itching to get them, as soon as no one is looking he shoots out his cave and sucks up whats left in 1 hit and scoots back to the cave! Great fun to watch!

I have also tried frozen brine shrimp, seem to spit it out first time as there was bloodworm on offer to but seem to polish it off when that was all there was, will also eat sinking pellets etc.
