Tip the fish and water into a bucket, add a couple drops of prime (to detoxify ammonia) and get a drip system going.
Prime is my friend.;)

Thanks all. I get the fish on Thursday. In case you're interested, here is what I'm getting males of:

Cynotalapia afra Cobwe, Pseudotropheus flavus Chinyankwazi and Labidochromis Super Red Top Kimpuma. Very excited!

I need to ask why I would not add any tank water to the new fish's water? This is what I do when I get new fish from the LFS and the only time I've ever had a fish go into shock was when I didn't do this.

Is this something you don't do when a fish has been shipped?

Thanks,

because the ammonia content in the bag, and you adding your water will chanage the ph and make the ammonia deadly to the fish. If your tank is fully cycled and your water parameters are in check, All you would need to do is equalize the temperatures by floating the bag and then add the fish.

OK--good to know. I am running a full parameter check of my tank water as I type this.

Thanks again.

What he said....def never add tank water to the fish bags as those fish have been producing unfilterable waste since the second they were put into those bags. Adding water of especially a higher pH makes the waters amonia level skyrocket and could be deadly. When I order my fish online I just simply float the bags for a 15 minutes and then dump the bags over a barrel or sink into a net and release the fish. Make sure you dont just dump the fish water and all into your tank. No telling whats in that water! Everything else youre doing sounds great. I never turn my lights off...but if you are worried about initial aggression...its normal. My new fish usually gets chased for 15 minutes tops....then all is well. Granted my tank is a 150 with a lot of rock work to hide. Good luck!

Thanks. This is the most I've spent on fish at one time, and online, so I'm being extra cautious. It's better safe than sorry.

I have places for them to hide, but could use some more. I've started really getting into giant hygro plants. They are perfect for the little ones to hide, but where I can still see (and enjoy) them. The LFS's been out and they are supposed to get more in today. The rest of the rock work will have to do. I just don't know if being thrown around by shipping clerks for two days in the dark is the best preparation for being chased in a strange tank by aggressive, larger males. :nilly:

I planned to whole day at home, so I'll see what I need to do. My alpha acei is more interested in courting my (male) hap moorii then picking on new comers--so I think we're good to go.

All three fish arrived in good health! Within the 15 minutes of acclamation of the water temp they started to really perk up.

They are in the tank now and I just bought some more plants for cover--oh, and there was a really god looking juvenile Hongi too--so I bought him as well. Now the new fish are not the only focus.

I'm taking pics and will post those later.

those are some great pics... :grinno:
