What do People do when the Power Goes Out?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I too keep styrofoam panels at the ready, in case a winter loss of power may occur. I too have dropped all media into the tank, and found means of agitating the surface as much as possible, via bottles with holes as Duanes showed.
Most importantly, don't even think about feeding! and definitely don't feed for a couple of days if a extended period of no electricity took place.
Hard to believe, but extended power losses during summer can be just as dangerous or more, as the house can get quite warm. Even without power loss, my Crypts melted terribly last summer, and have yet to get back to the previous splendor.

power has never gone out in my building. Even during sandy. We had electrical fires, and heating went out, but power remained!

Why’d you remind me of sandy. I have a generator now so that I don’t have to deal with power loss anymore.
My only fish casualty then was a silver dollar. He was with goldfish and the heater/filter going out must have been too much for him.
