What do you consider "big"...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's hard to say. When I got my first 60 gal I thought that was big. Then a 125, 210, 475, and now a 600. Every new tank was huge to me from the previous. it's all relative.

I gues it is all relative, that guy with a 50,000 gallon tank and a not so mini 15,000 gallon would consider our "monster tanks" not even good for growouts.

It's sort of comical what we consider big in a fish aquarium compared the the non fishkeepers world. I have only 2 tanks, the "little tank" is my 125 which has realitively small fish in it, none over 5", my other tank is my "BIG Tank" which is my 150 which has fish 8"-16" in length. I want another tank but my wife says no, but she did'nt think of our basement housing an aquarium. I want a 300g which would look nice near the pool table. This would be my next Big Tank.
You hardly ever hear of us fishkeepers reducing the size of our new tanks. I think it's a disease we all have....lol

for me anything "big" is a size up from what I have right now. I used to think a 300 gallon was "big" until I got used to looking at one.

Most people look at my 110 and say what a huge tank! why do you have that? If your only used to seeing 10 gallon tanks a 30 or 55 is huge, I dont consider it a big tank until it surpasses 200 gallons. Once your into the multiple hundreds, now your Monster keeping

I started with a 16G bow front tank, Then onto a 55G, thought that was pretty big. Then I got more into it and now have a 125 gallon tank that I've had for like a month and half, and when I first got it thought it was big. Now after joining this forum, and looking at so many threads and videos/pictures of some of your guys monster tank I think of my 125G as an average size tank and i've barely had it a month! haha. I'd love to someday have a 250-300+Gallon tank.

...When I first bought my 125 I thought it was huge, now I'd just consider it a grow-out tank. It's funny to think that to 99.9% of the rest of the world not on MFK a 55 is gigantic.

I couldn't agree more. My first 125 I bought used in 1989 for $100. I thought it was so huge! I mean, I really thought it was the bomb didggidity! Now I have three 125's. Two are grow outs/hospital tanks and one is a future sump.

Everything is relative I guess and it's 100% MFK's fault! I seriously would not be like this if not for you guys. I'm very happy too, don't get me wrong. I love this hobby and this site!

I have 420 but even it's big I still see tanks at store like 90 s or 110 s and they still look big too me. I want a 110 right now. Don't know why. I just want to start a minata grouper in there. I'm like that I have a problem. I know you guys are the same way that's why I'm here.
