Feeders. I breed feeder guppies for my ACFs (its what the lfs fed them, and they love em) If my breeder tank gets overpopulated I give em to a lfs. Doesnt happen as often as it used to since my frogs got bigger, but still happens.

how big is ur breeder tank?

Well yes convicts are mostly good for feeders.I wouldnt worry about getting them out, enjoy the whole process of the parents raising the fry.Till they start chasing them away then you have to take them out,or if the tanks big enough you can still leave them.
Its a good place to start, congrats on your first spawn and above all else enjoy!:)

Tscharf its just a 5.5 gallon for right now. Works okay for me, I only have 2 ACF to feed, one albino, and one green one. I scoop out all the fry around the size my frogs like once a week.

I have em in a tank with gobs and gobs of java moss, so the fry have a place to escape.

I know its not a monster tank by any means, but its sustainable for my purposes, and I get nice healthy disease free breeders for my ACFs

yah any other cichlid and it could possibly be worth something. but convicts are roach fish that are excellent for feeders and definitely healthier than store bought (well that parts up to you). but at least they don't have parasites.

for once I agree with you. They are like roach fish. Even if you try to kill them all you will still have some left.

I like to breed convicts as well. Most of them I power feed and feed them to my smaller Pbass to weed them off live food (no gold fishes). But i also keep most of the good looking females just for the way they look.

good lookin fish

carter: good deal man ive got 5.5 for my convicts for right now but ill be putting them in a 10 oon. gunna use em as feeders for my catfish

Mine are going in one of my cycled 10s as soon as I can afford something big. Im keeping my eye on a couple local tanks 90-130.

I need to find a nice invertebrate to feed to my loaches. Ive tried ghost shrimp and I just cant keep a sustainable supply, but they love those things. Im trying some smaller snails right now. I gave the loaches 6 yesterday as a snack and they loved em! Hopefully these will be easier to breed and susain. I hate relying on store bought feeders. Never had good luck with em.

Is that your catfish in your avatar? Looks gorgeous man. I really wish I could afford a big cat. Until then my sydontis and plecos (bristle nose 1", common 1", and sail fin 7") will have to tide me over. I got into the hobby knowin very little and overstocked my tank, so hopefully I can buy that bigger tank soon.
