What do you do with your fish when you get bored with them?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I see nothing wrong with rehoming a fish if you feel that you can no longer give it the appreciation and attention that it deserves. So long as you know its going to a good home.

I see that catfish pretty regularly, he looks like a much happier little bugger now.

I've always kept them for life. If I ever were to get rid of them it would be through a fish club, wouldn't want some idiot having my fish after I've spoiled them.

Fish aren't like dogs, or cats...they're not going to be thrown into emotional turmoil after being rehomed...that said, I can't stand it when someone constantly changes up their stock. I have rehomed a couple fish - Pictus Cats that my Oscar had been starting to chase around...I think that's it. So far I haven't gotten bored with any of my fish. If I did, I'd just make sure they go to a good home or the best LFS around...
Some day I'll probably change up the stock in my 35 gallon...I can maybe see myself getting bored with the Bloodfin Tetras in there!

What ive done is buy new tanks flr exciting fish... Which probably wasn't the best plan, had 7 tanks.

Ive Only returned one fish, was an oscar I realized wouldn't be happy in my new 55 I had purchased. However I plan to return a goldfish (mom bought one day after she killed half my fish) a common pleco (my mom bought the same day as the goldfish) simply because of their size possibilities.

I've kept fish that are generally boring for years. I still have 2 Cory's 3 tetra and a convict I've had for 8 years.

Not agree about trading children for money, otherwise everyone get rich just need to get pregnant. Too much social upheaval destroying class structure and redistributing wealth if make too easy this not good for patronage of arts and culture.

However, wish can trade in old parents with Alzheimer's for much money.

Just like the title says....What do you guys do when you get tired of your stock and want to switch it up? How do you usually re-home your fish?

I either sell them on MFK or I give them to friends. I try not to sell them to the store because most stores only give you 25% credit anyway and usually will put your fish into a little 10g tank until it sells. I'd rather sell it to another MFK member who can take better care of it than the store.
