What do you feed your BIG cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
BIG pellets mostly ;) also throw in some live foods like earthworms, life fish from time to time, raw shrimp, freeze dried krill etc.

i buy all my prepared foods from www.kensfish.com because they have an excellent selection and great prices. Shipping has never run me over $12 and considering you can get a pound of food for under $8 it's still well worth it. :D

How many times a week do you feed 1.5 to 2 lbs of smelt/shrimp a week and how big is your tank, that is a tremendous amount of food. Have you ever weighed that food or is this just an estimate?

i feed the big tank (300 gal) 3 days a week and the growouts everyday. i buy it in 3 lb bags and i can get right about 2 feedings of the big tank out of a bag. the growouts get shrimp and massivore on the other days. yes it is a lot. 29" aro's can eat a lot, much less everything else...

Ok, it just seems that 6 pounds of food going into a 300 gallon a week, which would be 24 pounds a month, or 288 pounds a year seems like a lot for a 300 gallon tank.

My 240 with the dovis, will eat about 1 pound of shrimp in 2 weeks with 10 pieces of Massivore every other day. That is about 1/12 of what you are feeding.

Must have a super filtration system for that much food being processed a week by your fish.
