What do you feed your snakheads?

Hi,for the most part I feed my snakeheads most of these foods mentioned, except live feeder fishes.I dont think its easy to change any fishes diet once they are use to eating determined foods.

pellets, shrimp & prawns, Tilapia, Pangasius catfish.

i feed him mostly prawns, then every now and again i give him a couple goldfish to hunt down. he's pretty happy to take the prawns from my hand, but he's not so keen to pick them up from the foor. lol.

I feed him a few prawns (3 or 4 - depending on the size) every second day. And gold fish on weekends. He seems very happy with his diet. He is also very active, so i'm not worried about him getting fat.

pellets and frozen krill as a treat, i just like watching the cute little 3" Rainbow snakehead with a big krill sticking out of his mouth, he looks so darn happy hehe

Hi all,

Just made myself a proud ower of a nice 25 cm Channa aurantimaculata.

Woohooo :)

But,... When do you feed your channa(e)?

:popcorn::headbang2

sporadically is how i feed my channa.
i actually have no feeding schedule, i can feed 2 days in a row and then not for another 3 days.
sometimes i feed every other day and sometimes not, i feed when i feel the need to feed.
overfeeding is very common with snakeheads so best avoided and if i was going to do a schedule i would feed every 2 or every 3 days mixing them up along the way.

So for all you guys that feed mainly raw seafood, are you worried about vitamin b1 deficiency from thiaminase?

We've been discussing this in the polypterus forum lately.

I've switched my bichirs to mainly pellets, and shrimp every so often.

that's an interesting way of doing it. is there any specific reason why you feed them so sporadically?
I don't want him to go hungry, so i'd rather have a schedule. but if it's better to randomize their feeding times then i have no problem doing that either.
