Alrighty, so i am only 16 turning 17(in jan.) and i already have a backyard pond which is not going so great. i plan on tearing that one down and building one in my basement!...i already have pond liner(the black sheet). i forgot how big it is, i think its about 12' by 8 or 9'...iono but i have a little room in my basement where my dad used to raise his chicken(yes i noe i live in milwaukee but its cuz im asian lol) but now there's nothing in there and its a decent place to have a pond. ok so now i plan on to evening out the walls with wood, place carpet on the floor(about 3 layers) and also put carpet along the walls to make sure the wood doesnt mess up my pond liner. Then make my own homemade pond filter...now the troubles that i face are....where can i find cheap carpet and how much do you think all of this would cost? and im not digging a hole im building it up! let me noe wat you think and help me through this process THANKS ALOT! I look forward to your helping hand and building this!

I can already picture a nasty, moldy, smelly, rotting carpet three layers thick and a ruined basement.
Scenario 1: tiny pinhole leak forms in the liner. Water seeps through constantly but the three layers of carpet soak it up so you dont know its happening.
6 months later after using every method you can think of to get rid of the horrible musty mildew smell, the wood that you put in finally fails from rotting due to constant moisture being trapped by the carpet. then you have a flooded basement and dead fish everywhere.
Maybe you should consider building a solid wall frame out of 4x4 or 6x6 posts, firmly secured to each other with 1/2" lag bolts or threaded rod.
Then install the liner making sure that if there IS a leak it will be quickly noticed.

One thing to consider when putting a pond in the basement is humidity. Too much humidity will cause mold to grow. Plan on getting an air exchanger or a dehumidifier.

The fact that they raised chickens INSIDE THEIR HOUSE says that mold/humidity/wet carpet smell are the least of their issues.
HAHA thanks for the heads up! but is there anotha way for me to build it witout drilling holes in my cement floor?
my basement is actually cold so im wondering about how ima keep the water nice and warm!
