What do you guys keep with your bichirs?

the gourami is also about 17 inches
 
Bichirs, gars and gobies. Currently I have a Florida gar, jade goby and a Marbled goby in with my 13 bichirs. Good community tank for me. I am in the process of growing out a Bowfin and hope to add him to the main tank by mid summer.

In the past I kept Jack Dempseys and bullhead catfish with good success,
 
Maybe my question should be "how big does the fish have to be, not to be considered food?"
 
I currently have mine with goonch cats and an odoe pike but I've kept them with armatus, fire eels, knifefish, cats, mahseer's, etc. there's a plethora of fish you can keep them with. My grow outs are with a goonch, 3 tigrinus, paroon shark, fire eel, ebjd and convict cichlid.

Don't get the kinda goonch Ivan has! Ugliest thing ever lol ..... Honestly u can keep bichirs with "almost" anything as long as the other fish is big enough ,... Most mean/territorial fish that bull others will leave bichirs be ..... (Not all) but most .... Ur biggest prob will be getting something to live with that giant guarmi ..... But my top votes since gars r illegal there is arowana, bowfin, and personally I like oscars .... But they r very very messy

2 tropical gar
3 clown loaches
1 fat Raphael catfish from a cichlid tank I kept ages ago.
 
2 florida gars and a clown knife for my big guys and a peacock bass with my growouta
