Keeping a stable salinity of 1.025 seens alil' difficult for me. I get too much evaporation I suppose and in a large tank it's really difficult to see. I've noticed that the salinity goes up when the heaters are running - I've been told it's the hydrometer reacting to the heat. Maintenance - 2x 30 gal w/c for 180 + 30 gal sump, feed twice daily very lil' amounts of frozen enhanced mixed cubes. Lights 8 hours on daily. Salinity check daily. Nitrate check every couple daze. skimmer check daily empty once or twice a week. Sit back, drink some beer, and enjoy - as much as time will allow.

The hydrometer isn't reacting to the heat, it is still reading the salinity of the water. The salinity changes from the heat and density of the water. The higher the temperature of the water the lower the density. Lower oxygen holding capacity too.

and i dont know if you are still debating on that star but seriously, its needs to go. it will die and will be in your sand bed and you may not realize til its already rotten and fouled the whole tank. You could fill that tank with sand and its still NOT enough area for that star to live and feed properly. Do as you want but you are doing yourself a favor in getting rid of it.

Your LFS is crap then, you would think if they want to keep your business they would keep you happy. I spend so much money at mine, he does everything in his power to make sure i'm happy at the end of the day. That's just good business. Regardless if you made a bad purchase, it comes down to you trying to do what is right and they won't help you. I would take my money somewhere else and tell them about the other crappy fish store that wouldn't help you and I bet you they will help you out. Just tell them they will be getting all your business from now on.

Yeh, that is kind of BS. A good LFS will take just about anything. The amount they give back may be debatable but they should take anything.

Yups

So thats why I go to my LPS for freshwater and I drive a while to this saltwater LPS.

And now that I think about it I spent more money at my freshwater pet store than this store that denied me.

well i do want to stress the importance to you that it is a matter of WHEN and not IF that starfish will die. I had a starfish die in a smaller tank before and it killed everything. It was awful. Just trying to help you out by pointing out the importance of getting rid of that rascal.

A lot of them are in the business to make money, and a lot of them dont care what happens to the fish once it leaves the store. If I was as sideways as some LFS owners are, I might even try to sell some of my customers a bridge.

LOL. It is hard to make it in the fish business...and the LFS is a dying commodity with how easy, and cheap it is to order through an online vendor who just ships stuff directly from their wholesaler.
