Im really sorry guys, couldnt come up with a better title. Im 17, And aspiring fish keeper all my life. Just small tanks from 2 - 4ft tanks. Always tropical. Ive always been on the website but never felt the need to join until now. Ive always been inspired by peoples monster fish tanks. But good news, For christmas. Ive managed to get hold of a 6.8ft 600L+ tank with everything, such as 4 external filters, a uv steriliser, 4 lighting tubes. Im going to transport my fish in there on christmas day :) My current setup is a 4ft x 2 x 2 tank with 2 red tiger oscars called Oscar & Coral, And a jack dempsey called 'Mason'. Still pretty small only a few months old. When i get my new tank, Im planning to put the following three things in with them. Which ive seen are quite popular across the site. Firstly being the silver arrowana. I can get it from my local fish shop, Also pretty small. Aswell as a Clown Knife Fish who i saw at my fish shop and adored, who is also quite small. Then a red tailed shovel nose hybrid which wont be introduced till the oscars and mason have bulked up a bit.

What do you guys think?

Unless you are planning on getting a bigger tank I'd skip on the red tailed shovel nose hybrid. The cat can grow over 6 feet in the right environments. The arrow tops out at 4 feet also they have a bad jumping habit but I've seen them kept successfully in smaller tanks so its a gamble. The knife should be ok. Any clue what type of filters they are?

I would wait till you can sustain the financial burdens of fish-keeping...lol! IT CAN GET EXPENSIVE ONCE YOU STEP INTO THE REALM OF MONSTER TANKS. Unless mom and dad are rich.

clown knife 3+ feet.
Arowana 4+ feet
red tailed shovel nose hybrid 4+ feet.
I think you should get a bigger tank than the bigger tank you just got. those fish get too big for your proposed setup.

Just ask to build a pond in your fish room.......A small 5 foot by 5 foot pond.......Materials for such a pond would cost under $300........The filter would be a DIY, costing under $100, plus a pump($80-100)......A catfish grows really fast, and really big.......I have seen many Arowanas grow out from small 5 inch babies to foot adults in 55-125g tanks........Try building a pond if a catfish is what you want.......

Ok guys. Thanks for the the quick response.

Money is not issue *touch wood* because i have two jobs.

I have the 4x Fluval 402 with it and a UV STERLISER.

Okay, I will leave the shovel nose out. But im still going to get Clown Knife Fish, and the Silver Arrowana. Hes going to be like a 4 inch baby still.

The Aro will outgrow that tank in a year. At 17, you're perspective of making good money is different. That good money goes away real quick when paying for adult things.

Those fish are going to need a true monster tank. Do you're parents know the potential size of these fish?
It's a commitment with larger fish.

Rule of thumb.........if you can't afford their final tank now, don't assume you can later down the road.

I don't like sounding like a nagging parent, but you're young. Things are going to change a lot over the next 10 years. Buy fish you can properly house. It'll also allow you to find a home easier for said fish if you decide to stay away from fish keeping for a while. I'm probably talking to a wall, but it's worth a shot.

600 liters is exacly 158 gallons. You say it is about 600 liters so The tank is probibly 150-200 gallons. It is big but not way bigger than the 4x2x2s. It is much longer but probibly much skinier. don't get me wrong, a 600 liter tank is very big. It's just that it is not like 5 times the gallonage of your current setups. I would not do red tailed cats and stuff, they need about 100-200 gallons larger than the 600 liter you have. I would do a cichlid community.

I'd do CA/SA cichlid community. If you really want a catfish what about like a Lima Shovelnose or something smaller. There are plenty of awesome fish out there.
