What do you HATE about fish keepers/keeping?

These are just off the top of my head... I can be an angry person though.

- People who keep goldfish with cichlids.
- Trying to sleep while my fluval 405 burps.
- People that think heaters are evil.
- How narrow commonly sold tanks are.
- The lack of living plants at lfs.
- When people say sand is too hard to clean.
- Elitist pricks.
- People who let their kids smack the tanks at lfs.

* Not fish keepers, but when my friend and his g/f who have a husky in a 1 bed room apartment tells me fish are too much work. *

Please do not attempt to keep a high-fin Pleco in the fine black tahiti moon sand! A decent sized gravel vac will suck all of your uber expensive sand out of your tank and not even budge the "crap" mountains left by these turd factories. It SUCKS to have to "net" out hulking turds, but I am unsure what my alternatives are!

At this point I don't know whether it is a better idea to try to use a 5 HP wet/dry shop vac to remove turd mountain, or just shove the hose up the plecos rectum and just run it 24/7 like a water filter!

How your LFS say that they are the number one fish store in the area with expert personel then you go in there and they do not know anything about a goldfish.

how much cool fish cost.
how texas has banned everythin cool with teeth.
how much reef tanks cost.
water changes
that my corals arent growing like weeds.
evaporation.
the fact that there is no perfect filter
poop
brown algea
that i am having to wait for my 240
and many more but most arent fish related
that is a very negative thread but it feels good to kinda vent
oh and kids that sit on here and act like they are fish geniuses just bc they can google and waste space on the forum.

Well, if you don't understand, I'll take another crack at it.

First of all, you say, "you are undoubtedly getting a better fish"... and I'd say, "bunk" to that. I've seen a LOT of poorly bred (and fed) fish come directly from the breeders. ...and "why would a breeder expect anything less". Well, the ones who do it for the money, ummm... do it for the money. A healthy interest in fish only goes as far as their wallet.

Over the years, I've bred 20 or 30 different species of cichlids, and I've GIVEN most of them away. The ones that I have sold, I've sold at no more than what the LFS would give me for them. Say... maybe a third of LFS price.

I bred the fish because I enjoyed the process, and I certainly didn't expect to make a profit... and I don't need to sell my fish for long dollar, in order to feel better about myself. Greed is greed... and to my way of looking at it, greed is bad. I'd rather find someone who'd enjoy them, and feel good about making their day. When I charge market rate, their money takes away my good feeling.

Hey... but I don't expect everyone to agree with this, but then again... This way of looking at the hobby is the way I find out who i want to do business with.

Amazing how many people seem to hate water changes and tank cleaning. EAsy to see why there is such a high turnover in this hobby, not to mention all the fish that are being kept poorly.

I hate the fact that people throw away aquariums. I'm lucky enough to catch one here and there as it's sitting on a curb, but I know there must be hundreds every day that I don't see. And that eats at me like mad. I just found one this morning, in fact. It's a little acrylic nano with an LED light on it. I'm going to do sand, gravel in one corner with a plant in it, and then I'm moving my ostracods and hovering/snaky nematodes into it. Seriously, I have these two nematodes that are unlike anything I've seen in my life. They don't wiggle, they don't squirm, they casually walk through the water, neutrally buoyant in perfect grace just like the Luck Dragon from Neverending Story. They sometimes just stop and float as if taking a rest. I swear they must be walking on molecules. It will be awesome and it was about to become trash.

I love water changes!

BUT I hate a recent trend I've seen, it's people GOING ON AND ON about how much they love or are obsessed with certain monster fish, buy one, and then just pack up and leave a few weeks later stating "OH I THINK *insert fish here* ARE COOLER NOW, so I shall rehome all my others and buy some more!" If you're going to buy a monster fish, and are seemingly this passonate about keeping one, please keep it for LIFE not just a few months.

Also, ALGEA, and any kind of cambomba or hornwort; that plant sheds it's stinkin' leaves EVERYWHERE!
