-Going away for whatever reason. Having aquarium(s) is a complication at this time.
-Moving and tearing down aquariums.
- Having to re-home fish and find nobody wants them except for people far away.
- That despite more information available and that it's easier to access then ever before, people still make horridly uniformed choices when it comes to their fish keeping.
For instance, there's just hardly an excuse to keep a goldfish bowl or trying to keep a pacu in a 55 gal for life because you're ignorant. If you don't have time to spend a few minutes doing a Google search on your chosen pet fish, then maybe you shouldn't keep them at all.
When I was a child, you had to buy each book or go the library and read whatever they had on hand. Now there's info galore online.
OK, maybe if the person lives in the boonies without internet access or library access, they have an excuse still.
- People who don't care about the welfare of animals they use for feeders. Using an animal as a feeder is not an excuse to torture an animal and cause unnecessary suffering.
- Not caring about the welfare of an animal because that animal was cheap. Such as goldfish, mice and rats bred as food for other animals.
-That fish keeping often suffers the consequences of other activities when fish are banned or endangered. As far as I know, fish keeping is rarely the primary factor in causing fish to be endangered.
- That people who care about fish welfare only seem to care about pet fish welfare and not the welfare of wild fish. It reminds me for instance of people who "love" birds and don't care about chickens in factory farms at all.
- That people who choose to eat fish meat often don't care about the ecological consequences of their choices. Overfishing is a huge problem that everyone should be informed about.
- People who view pet fish as disposable. Such as when bettas are used as decor and then flushed when the event is over.
- People who kill/euthanize pet fish for trival reasons such as wanting a new setup or losing interest. Everyone should at least make an effort to re-home unwanted fish before having them killed if it comes to that.
- Deformed hybrid fish.
- Dyed fish.
