nothing poops more than it eats. he cleans up leftover food (that my oscar is inevitably going to drop). the leftover food would be doing a number on my water quality as well...

I just do lots of water changes, as you can imagine with my stocklist in that 55 gallon.

got con fry, just saw it today. doubt any survive too long, though. not in that tank, anyway.

A synodontis will do the same thing as the pleco with waaaaaaay less poop. My eupterus is awesome at cleaning up after my messy Oscars. And they don't get near as large as common plecos at maybe 7" to 8". Just a tip.

Thanks for the tip. Any excuse to buy a new fish.

doubt there is any chance petsmart would take those plecos back, though.

I can't stand the people at my LFS (there's only one in town). maybe I'll just leave them on the doorstep...

Most locally owned LFS will take in any fish but pacu..

Petsmart also sells Eupterus, they call them featherfin cats if I recall correctly.

This is correct. PetSmart is where I got mine. They also have a Synodontis longirostrus that looks similar but gets bigger (14" or so if I remember correctly). I had one of these too until it jumped out before I got a good lid. These fishes have very spiny pectoral fins. Make sure they double or triple bag it and be prepared for leaks just in case. Maybe bring along a bucket and take him home in that. Don't ask me how I found this out, lol.

But, these are cool fishes and are mostly ignored by aggressive cichlids and are excellent at cleaning up left over food. Highly recommended for messy eaters like Oscars. I'll probably get another when the new tank is set up.

Yea I use to keep one with an Oscar as well and they did great together.. I wish I could add one in with my Dovii but I don't think I'll risk that, especially if I get a spawning pair..
