What do you have with your pbass?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a gorgeous 11" orange/white morph Midas in with my 17" Peacock bass and they were best buddies for about 4 days and then the Midas started nipping at the peacock bass. Within hours he was chasing the peacock bass around the tank. I had to take the Midas out and put him in another tank. The fish the peacock bass has been living with almost since day one are a 18" Tiger shovelnose catfish, 16" spotted gar and a 13" Royal Pleco. The ONLY problems I have with this bunch are at feeding time. The Peacock bass is such a fast eater... I can put 10 feeders in there and she (the female peacock bass's name is Wanda) could eat them all before they get a single one. I have tried using a divider at feeding time but every time I put it in the tank they start freaking out. I want to eventually separate any other feeder eating tank mates from the peacock bass because of these feed time issues. Besides the fact that the peacock bass scares the hell out of everybody in the tank with its reckless pursuit of the feeders... I have not witnessed any aggression problems except with the Midas. The Peacock bass may be huge but doesn't seem to have the goods for going up against other large aggressive Cichlids like the Midas. I almost forgot... the peacock bass tried to eat my 12" Arowana once while I tried to put it in there because it was getting nipped in another tank (I know... that was DUMB!!!). You better make sure what ever you put in the tank will not fit in its huge mouth...

Those are my various pbass tankmates.

With my peacocks I keep

Datnoids
Sutch sharks
Australian lungfish
Clown knife
Plecos
Tinfoils

I have only 1 12" mono and keep him toghether with:

2 Motoro stingrays 1 12" disc and 1 6"disc
3 Sorubim Lima
8 Myleus Rubripinnis (Red hook)
8 metynnis Hypsauchen
2 Crenicichla Lugubris (both + 12")

At the moment no problems.
I almost always notice him swimming in the upper part of the tank, the stingrays barely leave the bottom, so I won't be much afraid of the sting.

Nico

Currently with my peacock bass I've got a crenicichla sp atabapo, tiger shovelnose, and a lima shovelnose. In the past I've kept green sunfish, red ear sunfish, green severums, marble catfish, sun catfish, a royal pleco, and a high fin shark(temporarily until his tank was ready again, for about a month probably)

I wouldn't think that you'd have any problems with rays in there, they are a big investment though and require alot of attention to water parameters and great water quality in general. Hopefully when I get my pond built and have the space for rays I will be moving my current pbass into the pond with the rays and starting over with baby pbass and other fish in the 240 because at 10-12" already...they will need a new home soon. ~Trent

Also, if you do keep rays with the pbass, be sure the pbass are big enough to not be eaten by your rays...

Beautiful Mono Belray,

Mine are with a Rhino Pleco All the tankmates I have tried have either ended up food or have been out competed for food. It is hit and miss depending on individual fish.

Mine where fine with my silver aro for a long time then one day they did not like him anymore.:screwy:
